This couple was such a dream for me to photograph. Usually my sessions are child-led and my priority is to make sure the kids are comfortable and having fun. I love kids...but, it's so refreshing to just photograph adults who can follow my directions and stay still haha.
Photographing maternity sessions for first time parents is really special to me. It's not just about capturing that cute little bump, but I see it as grabbing a snapshot of two people who are about to become two very different people. It's the moment right before the birth of a mother and a father. During the shoot, I love hearing about their pregnancy journey, the hopes and DREAMS they have for their child, the names they are considering, and how they are preparing for labor. I love sharing in that deep anticipation for what the future holds and daydreaming with them about family life. Â As a mom of three, the pre-kids stage of life seem like another lifetime ago. But, maybe that's precisely why I love photographing first time parents: It reminds me of a time when my heart was full of wondrous anticipation. It reminds me to regularly revive dreams and hopes for my family that may have gotten buried along the way under diapers, dishes, laundry, homework, and the grind of daily parenting. I always leave maternity sessions feeling especially grateful for my children and that gentle and powerful reminder to DREAM for my family.
