One of my favorite shoots to do is an in-home newborn shoot because of how intimate and at ease the photos are. But when COVID-19 happened, everything was halted, and even prohibited. Parents wondered how they could still capture this unique and fleeting stage of newborn life amid COVID. As we have slowly reopened businesses and eased back into shooting, one way to minimize risk is to shoot outdoors! I am so excited I got to do my FIRST outdoor newborn shoot this month! I'm SO incredibly honored to capture this beautiful family and their precious little baby girl! For safety reasons, I maintained 6ft away as much as possible and just verbally directed, which was difficult as I am usually in there to help with swaddling, positioning, and the like. BUT, the parents were rockstars! Mom looked stunning, especially being 2 weeks postpartum!! Dad was a swaddle king and even fed baby a bottle mid-session while I took portraits of Mom. Big bro even got a smile out of baby sister.
All in all, it was a different experience than in-home, but just as rich and intimate. Simple, natural, and no fuss – just a family, a blanket, and the warm glow of the setting sun.
