What to wear and how to look your best for your maternity session | Pasadena Maternity Photographer

When I was pregnant, I remember feeling large, bloated, and exhausted all the time. People would make comments about how pregnant mamas "GLOW" during pregnancy - but I think most moms can agree that that glow was from the glean of sweat on your face. 😅You know, after throwing up, walking up a set of stairs, running after your toddler, or all of the above.

This is a HUGE deterrent for most moms to get maternity photos done. (It was definitely one for me.) But, we truly do ourselves a disservice! This period is so unique and precious that it deserves to be documented!

So, I wanted to give you 3 wardrobe TIPS for your maternity session to help OVERCOME whatever insecurity you may feel about getting those photos taken! Tips for mom-to-be clients on how to look your best and feel your best for your photo session. :)

Tip #1: Find an outfit that highlights your bump. A tightly fitted top or a waistline above the bump works great. I'm partial to a beautiful flowy maxi dress, though. Being pregnant is a uniquely feminine experience, and a dress helps capture your beautiful femininity. Not to mention, it's very forgiving.

Here are some I found on amazon that are affordable and flattering!

Tip #2: Stay away from busy patterns. We want the focus to be on your bump, so we want to stay away from clothing that will distract! You can't go wrong with solid, neutral colors as they are timeless and classic. To bring interest in your photos without it being overwhelming, consider bringing in subtle patterns or mix in various textures (knits, lace, velvet...).

Tip #3: Timing. Timing of maternity photos can make a big difference. Too early in your pregnancy, and your bump looks more like your post-thanksgiving meal. Too late in your pregnancy, and you are so uncomfortable that you look unnatural in the photos. This means you have to plan ahead! Typically somewhere from 28-35 weeks can work - when your bump is nice and round, when you still have energy, and when you still feel comfortable enough to move around. :)
